Kawarau Estate Chardonnay Reserve

2009 Chardonnay ReserveOur Estate Chardonnay is aged for 10 months in French oak barrels aged between 1 and 3 years old. Fermented in stainless steel with wild yeasts, the wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation in barrel with minimal fining and filtration. A lighter style of chardonnay than our Reserve, this summery crisp wine is crafted to be enjoyed over the next couple years.

2009 Reserve Chardonnay Tasting Notes

This wine has been barrel fermented and aged for 10 months in fine French oak barrels. Our Reserve Chardonnay is a wine with white peach, stonefruit and mineral aromatics, a silky richly textured mouthfeel tight structure and a mineral finish. On the palate the flavours are toasty, warm and complex and show subtle oak handling.

Vintage Notes

Kawarau Estate had a great 09’ season, with both Spring and Autumn frost periods being relatively uneventful – so big smiles all round!

We had some unseasonal rain bursts pre Christmas, but flowering had passed before these events so excellent fruit set once again.

We had a healthy and productive canopy at harvest along with excellent physiological ripeness of fruit.

Wines from this season should show excellent complexity and structure once again.
